On January 26th 2001 four Western Australia Police Officer's lost their lives in a plan crash in Newman Western Australia whilst responding to a call for assistance.  The impact on their families, friends, colleagues and the community of Newman was and is still very profound. The event remains the most significant loss of police life in modern-day policing history in Australasia.

Each year the Newman community hosts The Bloody Slow Cup.  The Bloody Slow Cup is a memorial weekend held to remember those officers who lost their lives and to fundraise for WA Police Legacy.
